anyone know where i can get free legal advice reguarding a protection order?
to make a long story short, my boyfriend got arrested last night for disorderly conduct, he was brought to court today and they put a protection order on him so he cant go within 100ft of me. i did not want this protection order and it should have never been placed. so i need to do everything i can to get it lifted or we’ll lose our apartment, he’ll lose his job and be left with nothing. so please someone help me if anyone knows any pro bono lawyers in the connecticut area it would be a great help.
The problem is that his case is between the State of Connecticut and your boyfriend. You are not a party. You may be called as a witness for either the prosecution or the defense. The prosecutor’s office may have a victim advocate’s office which should allow you a better opportunity to plead your case to the prosecutor. Give them your side of the story and ask them to help you out. You may benefit by talking with a lawyer. There is at least one caution: Be careful about getting involved with witness tampering felony charges. If there is any kind of contact between you and your boyfriend before this thing is resolved, he could be charged with a worse offense. You may also be in jeopardy if you attempt to do anything that the prosecutor perceives to be unlawful in your efforts to help your boyfriend.
