History:

Jiguro Professor Kano, the founder of Judo, graduated from Tokyo Imperial University, Japan in 1881. He attended various schools of Ju-Jitsu, for developing a system of physical exercise. He adopted the best principles of each system of ju-jitsu and has called Judo. Literally translated, means "gentle way". Kano's interpretation, however, was "maximum efficiency".

It is good to note that Kano's Judo was not created to be a competitive sport, and was convinced it was a personal art form in the body and mind. He insisted that his need to control and appreciation of the inherent philosophy that supports all aspects Judo. In this spirit, it is interesting to know the oath that all students in Kodukan judo dojo (the name given by Kano at his dojo) must be taken on admission: "Once I entered the dojo Kodukan, I can finish school without reasonable cause, I will not dishonor the dojo, at least gives me permission, I will not divulge the secrets I've learned at least that gives me permission, I will not teach judo teacher and student of first, second, I will always follow the rules of the dojo. "

Competition:

Judo is now one of the most popular martial arts in the world, however, by more than 8 million students.
